Halloween Bathroom Decor and Props

So, just browsing the web for Halloween tips I found two images, that instantly caught my interest. One is a towel with bloody hand prints and the other is dead body in a bathtub.

The bloody towel is fairly easy to make.

The body in the bag takes a bit more effort, but should be fun to make - and will look awesome!

Dexter Halloween Buffet Table Decor

I always love to set the dinner table - or in this case, the buffet table - for Halloween. This year I will be wrapping it in transparent plastic and have a "murder tool kit" on it as prop, in keeping with my murder room theme. I will have red wax candles and red napkins. To contrast the red I will attempt to use as much white chinaware as possible.

I found this very chic Dexter table setting at inventorspot.com - My room will of course look no way as fancy but it is great for inspiration:

Murder Room Halloween Theme - Part IV

My final Dexter props will be red string and a set of black leather gloves laying about.

Murder Room Halloween Theme - Part III

Next up on my Dexter inspired theme will be to wrap the dining table in transparent plastic and add a "murder tool kit" as an extra feature. If I owned a chainsaw I would have used that! That would look really cool I think.

Murder Room Halloween Theme - Part II

My next Dexter inspired Halloween Murder Room decor project will be printing and framing blood splatter pictures.

These are from Dexter:

And these you will find by searching Google images for "Blood splatter" - large images. Please assume they are all just for personal use.

Murder Room Halloween Theme - Part I

This year's Halloween theme is Gore Galore. So in order to get the house ready for the party I have decided to decorate parts of the house as Murder Rooms.

I found a lot of inspiration just searching for "Dexter murder room" on Google images.

I will most definitely be putting a lot of transparent plastic on the floors and walls. And I will put up pictures Dexter style like below. It might be cool to find some of the guests and Photoshop a little gore to pep them up ;)

My First Halloween Party For Kids - Part II

Well, the party was a success. I did not do the muffins - which turned out to be a good call - since it turned out there wouldn't really have been enough time for it.

My daughter and I carved out the inside of the pumpkins before the other kids arrived. I was really glad we did that beforehand. Kids have a short attention span at that age, and hollowing out a pumpkin does take some work. Drawing the faces and cutting them out took the right amount of time for them to not lose interest.

Cutting out the easiest paper models from Ravensblight.com was also fine. Fortunately I had done a test run the day before, and realized that kids 7-8 years old would not have the patience - or possibly the skill - to cut out and assemble houses and vehicles. The kids all chose the bats to cut out and put on their walls.

So in between play, dress-up, trick-and-treat and eating candy it was a really nice day - for both the kids and their adults :)

My First Halloween Party For Kids

My daughter is 8 years old now, and I think it's time to make a Halloween Party for her and her friends. I have only tried having Halloween parties for adults, so this is going to be a whole new experience - and challenge.

I have scheduled the party from 2 pm - 5 pm. Three hours is a good time frame when you are dealing with young kids. We are only going to have 4 kids in total - this way it will be very cosy and manageable.

The program is as follows:

  • Dress-up and makeup
  • Pumpkin Carving
  • Decorating muffins with orange glaze and Halloween candy
  • Cutting out and assembling Halloween paper models
  • Trick-or-Treat (4 neighbors have agreed to be ready at 4.30 pm)

And of course time to play :) As I haven't tried this with kids, I have no idea whether or not I have planned too much or too little for the children. Time will tell.

Halloween Decor - For the Kids and Nerdy Adults

Some years ago I stumbled across the Ravens Blight website. It has a lot of really cool Halloween paper models. I especially like this one of a decrepit old house - it has a very unique look, and it's not too demanding to make. My daughter certainly loved it. With the monster dolls that you can print also, she had a real monster doll house. It is open in the back - like a doll house. You can find the instructions for theses paper models - and many more - here at Ravens Blight. I have assembled the ones below, with huge success! I will definitely be adding to the collection this year.

Scary Spooky (and 1 funny) Movies from 2014-2016

So, I am going to mention my favorite movies to watch in October. I made a list in 2014 that contained - in my view - the very best Halloween worthy movies. This new list will be of movies made since then.

The first one is actually not that scary - but it is very, very funny.

1. What we do in the shadows - so funny
2. Crimson Peak - it's a gothic ghost/horror movie. I wish it had been better - but still way more watchable than all those horror-torture movies out there.

Well that was a short list. I just could not find any new movies that are truly scary. Gross torture movies/damsel in distress galore - but no decent, good quality scary movies out in recent years. Sad face :( Well, I guess I can re-watch some of the old, but golden, classics.

Halloween Props - Single Cover

It's the small details that give your Halloween interior design decor that extra something. This is a cover that I found years ago on the Internet (sadly, I cannot link to the original image, as I don't know where I found it).  I made the back cover to complete the illusion of a real record. I printed the two images and glued them to an old single record cover and finished with a layer of varnish to give it that old look.

Place Cards For a Halloween Dinner Party

Some years ago I made these place cards for our Halloween dinner party. When we were seated each guest would read the text on the back of the place card out loud in a funny / accented voice. It was great fun - and a good ice breaker.

Halloween Props

So, I have been thinking about this year's Murder House theme. Since I love decorating our home for the annual Halloween party, I am always looking for props to use around the house. I am going to print this old ad and hang it on a wall - or the fridge.

That Time Again

So, it's that time of year again where the Halloween invitations have gone out. Every year I design my Halloween invitation so that it matches that year's Halloween theme. This year I decided to have a Gore Galore Halloween Party. So, it will be fun to see what the guests make of that one for dressing up :) For decorations I will be doing a Murder House theme with plastic sheets on the floor and broken dolls/barbies hanging from the ceiling. Should be fun.

This is my 2016 Halloween invitation:

And these two are from previous Halloween parties:
